Welcome to our 47th season.
In a time of challenges and uncertainty, I think the arts can be a great comfort. They bring us hope and joy. When we were programming this year, we really geared our thinking towards music that brings joy, hope and comfort.
The Dvořák Cello Concerto, for example, which we will be performing with the amazing Cameron Crozman, is a very inspiring work. It’s so passionate and life-affirming. The Prokofiev Symphony is positive and beautiful. To me, it’s music that could be seen in an uplifting movie – it’s like a fairy tale without the villain. And the Brahms First Symphony reminds me so much of Beethoven’s Fifth. It starts in a minor key, but then, after it feels like our hero has faced various challenges, it moves to the triumphal major key to end.
We hope the audience will find this as captivating – and good for the soul – as we do.
