Event Description

Livestream Link TBA.
The Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO), American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC), the National Association of Composers USA- Los Angeles Chapter (NACUSA-LA), the Screen Composers Guild of Canada SCGC), and the Canadian Music Centre proudly present the Film Scoring Challenge, a special live-streamed event celebrating the creativity and innovation of Canadian and US film composers, taking place on March 2 at the Canadian Music Centre.
The event is a workshop session for a series of film scores by talented composers from Canada and the USA, many of whom are new generation artists. These scores have been written specially for this event to accompany short films from student animators from Sheridan College and classic film scenes from the Hollywood Film Noir era, showcasing the artistry and emotion that bring films to life.
The Odin Quartet and clarinetist Kaye Royer will be playing the music, conducted by SPO music director, Ronald Royer. Besides the music being performed, there will be some brief discussion and commentary on the music. This session will be interesting to people who enjoy film music and/or who are interested in the process of recording music for film.
This project is the first time that the SPO, ASMAC, NACUSA-LA, SCGC, and the CMC have worked together, allowing musicians on both sides of the border to collaborate, share and learn from each other.
